Why is it that Alitalia does not offer me a proper facility to work when my flight gets cancelled and I have to wait at Malpensa airport for the rest of the day until the next flight. I even specifically asked for it, I need power for my laptop. Instead I get a voucher for lunch (I can pay for that myself thank you) and I'm told that there'll be plenty of power sockets in the waiting areas at the gate. I'm typing this since I managed to find one, but that was after I walked halfway across the airport (the other one I saw was taken by a teenage girl charging her phone).
What always strikes me about the seats in airport waiting areas is that their design usually offers plenty of room for power-sockets, they would just have to be wired. If you look at the Malpensa seats, the centre beam supporting the bottom of the seats could have a power socket directly at the end, where the small table is. The wiring could be led through the beam itself. This would probably still cause a shortage of power sockets for traveller's ever-increasing power needs, but it's better than what we have today. If necessary, advertising could make this possible economically; "this energy was brought to you by Alitalia" The small table top surface on the Malpensa seat could show the ad itself with an arrow indicating the presence of the power socket underneath the table.
